Implant Continuum
Professional Seminars > Implant Continuum
Prosthodontic Seminars
Course Description:
This six-day course continuum teaches implant surgical placement, bone grafting and restorative procedures start to finish. As a two-part continuum this course curriculum will guide clinicians through complete assessment, treatment planning, implant placement and bone grafting using tried-and-true techniques refined through years of clinical experience and developed using evidence based principles. The training also includes the use of cutting-edge virtual planning and guided implant placement procedures allowing increased predictability and precision of outcomes. Implant restorative components for partially edentulous and completely edentulous patients will be taught for screw-retained and cement retained restoration and includes thorough instruction in use of both CAD/CAM and stock abutments as well as prosthetic components. This continuum provides protocols to achieve optimal esthetics and function that begins with optimal implant surgical placement that is prosthodontically driven by appropriate treatment planning and final restoration design.

Part I
– Implant Surgical placement and basic Bone Grafting Surgery
– Virtual Implant Surgery Planning
Course Objectives (days 1, 2)
The specific surgical techniques, as well as the physiologic and anatomic principles required for placing implants and basic bone grafts is taught by lectures, hands-on model exercises, and surgical demonstrations. Participants will receive DVDs of live surgeries, a manual of procedure protocols, and supporting scientific literature. An iBook download containing the course manual, photos and videos in a digital format that is easily searchable for future reference and study is also available. Special emphasis is placed on prosthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning as the principle guide for the surgical treatment plan to obtain stable, long-term esthetics and function. Participants are encouraged to bring cases for discussion and questions.
Course Content:
- Prosthodontic and surgical treatment planning
- Patient assessment, medical history, prescriptions, anesthesia, risk factors and informed consent
- Dimension of the edentulous space, anatomy and radiographic evaluation
- Surgical guide fabrication/use, implant occlusion and bio-mechanics
- Implant surgical placement including hands-on model exercises
- Bone grafting indications, principles and limitations
- Incision design, suturing, osseointegration time frames, post-op instruction
and follow-up - Complication prevention/management
Course Objectives (day 3):
Virtual implant surgical planning using 3D diagnostic software is taught by lectures and hands-on computer exercises. Participants will learn how to obtain conversion of Dicom files from Cone Beam CT image data, use of 3D software for implant surgical planning, and how to order a stereolithographic surgical guide base on the virtual surgical plan. Special emphasis is placed on prosthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning as the principle guide for the surgical treatment plan to obtain stable, long-term esthetics and function. Participants are encouraged to bring cases for discussion and questions.
Course Content (day 3):
- Virtual prosthodontic and surgical treatment planning using surgical implant planning software
- Conversion of CBCT Dicom data for use in implant planning software
- Dimension of the edentulous space, anatomy and radiographic evaluation
- Stereolithographic surgical guide fabrication based on the virtual surgical plan
Part II
– Fully-Guided Implant Surgery
– Implant Restorative Components
and Basic Implant Restoration
– Full Arch Fixed Implant Prosthodontics Treatment Planning and Design
Course Objectives (day 4):
The specific surgical techniques for performing guided implant surgery are taught by lectures, hands-on model exercises, and surgical video demonstration. Participants will receive DVDs of live surgeries and a manual of procedure protocols with supporting scientific literature. Special emphasis is placed on prosthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning as the principle guide for the surgical treatment plan to obtain stable, long-term esthetics and function. Participants are encouraged to bring cases for discussion and questions.
Course Content (day 4):
- Surgical techniques for performing implant placement surgery using a stereolithographic surgical guide made from the virtual implant surgical plan
- Indications and methods for using tooth-borne, soft tissue-borne, and bone-borne stereolithographic
surgical guides - Use of conventional surgical guides
- Incision design, suturing
- Complication prevention/management
Course Objectives and Course Content (day 5):
This course is aimed at teaching the techniques and skills necessary to make single and multiple unit fixed implant supported prostheses. Appropriate selection and use of abutments, impression copings and prosthetic components will be taught for both cement-retained and screw-retained prostheses. Selection of multi unit abutments, and making implant-level impressions will also be explained in detail. This is a hands-on, parts and pieces course designed to provide a working knowledge of all necessary abutments and prosthetic components for cement-retained and screw-retained implant crowns and bridges.
Course Objective (day 6):
This course teaches the techniques and skills necessary for treatment planning and fabrication of fixed, screw-retained prostheses taught by didactic lecture and hands-on demonstration to provide a working knowledge of all necessary components and procedure protocols.
Course content:
- Case selection
- Prosthetic treatment planning and surgical considerations
- Abutment and prosthetic components selection
- Prosthesis treatment steps
- Temporization
- Immediate loading
- Prosthesis design
- Laboratory communication and coordination
- Complications prevention and management
